Corian Chair

Affectionately nicknamed “Darth”, this Corian and white oak chair was created in collaboration with Willis Distribution to explore the properties of Corian’s new colour, Deep Anthracite. In order to showcase the rich through-colour of this new solid surface material, Willow & Stump designed a seat pan that involves tight thermoformed curves and intricate patterns cut into both sides of the seat pan and back. The experimental processes used pushed the material to function in a new way, unlike it’s common use as countertop material. The frame was built in solid oak to contrast the stark aesthetic of the black Corian. The result is an elegant furniture piece that invites users to investigate the material as it looks like stone, but is bent like plastic. It was showcased at the Interior Design Show Vancouver in 2017.
